This is the tale of Nate, a little Ohioan terrier that no one wanted to adopt. Even Luv For Mutts, the rescue foundation housing the little terrier, thought he would be in their care for life; Nate walked funny and had heard a ton of put downs by potential adopters. Word spread throughout the country for the unwanted pup, and believe it or not, eventually reached the ears of an incredibly generous film star, world-renowned actor and producer George Clooney. Little did the little dog know things were about to get big: this little dog that nobody wanted got adopted by one of the most wanted stars in the world. Hear the full story below!
Nate’s Crushing Adoption Streak
In the little town of Colerain Township, Ohio, a tiny terrier named Nate was rescued from a hoarder and taken in by rescue group Luv for Mutts based out of Fairfield.
Nate, who has a birth defect on his leg, had a hard time getting adopted.
“When we took Nate to adoption events, people would stare and kids would point,” explained the rescue group. “Several people applied to adopt him but then said ‘no’ when they met him. He was with us nine months. The lowest point came when an adopter cried when she met him and said she would be depressed the rest of her life if she had to look at him every day.”
You could imagine what that would be like for a person to go through, let alone a tiny dog.
Luv For Mutts saw past this defect, saying, “Why could they not see what we saw in him? A handsome, charming, sweet and normal little boy. Little did we know someone had been ogling over him for a while watching his videos and reading his profile.”
That “someone” referred to so humbly by the Ohioan rescue group was none other than Academy Award winner George Clooney and his new bride, international peacemaker Amal Clooney. The celebrity pair were following Nate’s videos online. Avid animal adopters – seen here with their adoptee Millie – they couldn’t help but fall in love with little Nate. It wasn’t long before the Clooneys took action.
George’s parents had lost their terrier of ten years. George, knowing this, had been on the lookout for their next new adoptee, what with Christmas then looming on the horizon. They quickly arranged for little furry Nate to be brought to Kentucky to live with George’s parents, actors Nick and Nora Clooney.
Luv For Mutts noted, “What is impressive is the fact that George picked Nate out, and Nick and Nina accepted Nate just the way he is. They could have any dog in the world, but they chose to adopt a dog who was crippled and could have been with LuvFurMutts for life.”
It’s fitting that Luv For Mutts is in awe of Nick and Nina Clooney themselves, not just as the parents of the world-renowned George Clooney; it’s just like how they like the little dog Nate exactly for what he is. Nick and Nina are – as some reading may not realize – actors well, established in their own right.
Luv For Mutts is certainly a fan of Nick and Nora. Luv For Mutts gushed that, “Those of us who grew up listening to Nick’s voice on TV and awing at how beautiful Nina is, have also witnessed how they have always given back to their community.”
And so it is that Nick, the little dog that no one wanted, made his way to a very special home, indeed.
